The suggestion that this was a false flag operation, if that is the implication of what is referred to as a conspiracy, is far-fetched. Firstly, the ISPR media statement on the last Corps Commander's Conference hints at strategic action against India. Secondly, while Pulwama bombing was purely focused on targeting our Security Forces, something that would give fillip to the insurgency, here the attack has been on a target that would only gravely hurt the popularity of the insurgents. Therefore, one should see this as a purely terrorist action, something that the LET is good at undertaking...26/11, etc.

As is pointed out once Cold Start was not activated, choices available now are limited and will face a robust response, especially from the PAF, which is presently in top form given the great deal of Chinese assistance it has received. In any case winning State elections is less critical than winning the General Election. Bothe the political leadership and the military hierarchy are fully aware of the state of our military and will avoid any escalation, if that is likely to lead to even a limited conflict. A missile attack on the LET HQ or an assassination of the DG ISI or COAS, which cannot be pinned on India may be the option of choice.
