India is an emerging great power. The Narendra Modi government in decisively reshaping it as New India hopes to position so as to finally take up its ‘rightful’ place in the comity of nations. That India has always had a mind of its own is well-regarded. Even in the Cold War, when international maneuver space was rather limited for post-colonial nations, it had carved out a role for itself. Its continuing strategic autonomy was on show at the Security Council in its voting pattern on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

International order requires an effective conflict resolution instrument.Prevent threat to peace. Security Council need to take on this role of a binding negotiator& mediator. It's time nation states willingly surrender the idea of sovereignty in matters that threaten peace.Infact it provides a face saver to nationalist govts before their domestic stake holders.
If India is serious in strengthening world order thru UN it ought to declare its willingness for mediation in its own conflict with Pak and China.
Secondly regional alignments with overt or covert military arrangements like QUAD do not strengthen UN.
